Our Team

Not only is Georgette the owner of The Book Rack, she also is the Nancy Drew of scoping out new children’s books. She purchased the business in 1980 after a career in teaching English in Baltimore County Schools. Over the years, The Book Rack transformed from a used and new retail bookstore to a special order service, all the while with Georgette at the head. Her position has taken her to many conferences across the country, helping connect educators with classroom reading materials. It’s hard to say which Georgette loves more, dogs or books, but her favorite childhood book is Henny Penny.

Mary finds it hard to believe that she’s been working in the book business for 40 years. 20 of those years have been here at The Book Rack. She loves researching niche subject matter for customers and getting to know everyone who walks through our doors. In her spare time, Mary loves spending time with her granddaughter and recharging by the pool. Her favorite children’s book (today) is Where The Wild Things Are.

Allyson inherited her love of books from her mother, Mary (see above). She’s a recent MFA graduate of the Creative Writing and Publishing Arts program at University of Baltimore. Allyson also self-published a collection of short stories for her thesis project. She’s been working on and off at The Book Rack since dressing up as Hermione for a Harry Potter book release when she was 14. Her favorite children’s book (besides Harry Potter) is The Phantom Tollbooth.

Joe

Joe does all our packing and receiving at The Book Rack. He spends most of his time off maintaining his rather pristine garden and trying to keep up with his grandchildren, affectionately known around here as “the triplets!” Joe is a retired Baltimore County principal whose favorite childhood book is The Wind in the Willows.
